Can my custom domain be a separate top level domain instead of a sub domain?

For example, my Trainer Central app is part of my Zoho One at abc.com

I also own a domain called def.com

Instead of mapping to subdomain.abc.com, can I simply map to def.com, or am I going to have to figure out some kind of redirect to get it there?
