Restrict course and test access to the TrainerCentral desktop app

To provide a more secure learning environment, TrainerCentral allows you to restrict learners from accessing courses and tests through a web browser. When desktop app access is enforced, learners must use the TrainerCentral desktop app to access the selected content.

You can choose to restrict access for courses, tests, or both.

Before you begin

  • Desktop app access can be configured only by academy administrators.

  • Learners must install the TrainerCentral desktop app before they can access restricted content.

  • If desktop app access is enabled, learners won't be able to access the selected content through a web browser.

Enable desktop app access

  1. Navigate to Settings.

  2. Navigate to Content Protection > Native Apps.

  3. Select Enforce desktop app access for learners.

  4. Choose the content you want to restrict:

    • Course

    • Test

  1. Click Save.

Desktop app access options

TrainerCentral provides two options to control how learners access your content.

Course

Select Course to require learners to use the desktop app for the entire course.

When this option is enabled:

  • Learners cannot open the course in a web browser.

  • All lessons, including assessments within the course, must be accessed through the desktop app.

Use this option when you want the complete learning experience to take place within the desktop application.

Test

Select Test to restrict only assessments to the desktop app.

When this option is enabled:

  • Learners can continue accessing course lessons through a web browser.

  • Assessments can only be started and completed using the desktop app.

Use this option when you only require enhanced security for yoru assessments.

NotesNote: If both Course and Test are selected, learners must use the desktop app for the entire course, including all assessments.

Learner experience

When learners attempt to access restricted content through a web browser, they'll be prompted to install or open the TrainerCentral desktop app before continuing.

If they don't already have the desktop app installed, they'll need to download it and sign in using their learner account.
